A response on Facebook

Why am I in the middle of developing a massive wiki for the content from a class I took?

Cindy, thanks for your thoughts. As for spending time on product creation, it is important to fail quickly before investment spirals out of control. However, in this case, the calculation is skewed because this is a resource I feel I need for myself to fully understand and master the material.

I am a believer in this saying:

“Every good work of software starts by scratching a developer's personal itch.” – Eric Raymond

This project represents a personal itch that I have that I want to scratch. We will see if anyone in the market, which is limited to members of this class, share this itch. It might be a good itch, with a good solution, the problem might be mostly in connecting it with sufficient people who have the same itch.

Putting this in a wiki puts the information in a form that other people with a similar itch can help with improving the base information, which is creating notes about the videos, and enhancing and cross referencing those notes to make them more usable and accessible. So this all is being placed in a very democratizing platform. We will see if anyone is itching enough to support it and even help.

This article talks more on this philosophy:
